12:36 pm - phases
went to see the super retarded midnight release of new moon. i hates being surrounded by stupid people... almost as much as i hate mieces to pieces. the movie really wasnt so bad tho. sure im a big fan of werewolves in general and that helped. but the world in which this saga takes place is much more interesting to me than the saga itself. i am enjoying figuring out how these supernaturals work. what their structure is. personally, i hate the crap out of super-angsty edward, and i totally feel for jacob. not just because he's a fuzzy, but because i identify more with him in the story.
there's a fight between vampires at one point, well, several points, but one point in particular that felt was really well done. it showed off their speed and strength quite effectively. bravo.

09:40 pm - what fresh hell is this?
i dont even know what to say anymore. hence the six weeks of absence. seems like whenever i speak people get hurt.
when did i get to be so terrible? was it in junior high when i worked so hard to fit in? i dont want to be a product of my environment.
the worst part is, lately, i havent even been right when ive been saying such terrible things to people.
pull the beam out of my eye. please.

yeah, im venting. its been a while.

09:13 am - cheesey ricey goodness
by demand, i will post a "recipe" for this stuff that's kept me alive on occasion.

measurements are all approximate. mostly because this is a kitchen creation.

start with a pan. well, no. i seem to always have rice on hand, so start there.

make some rice. i like short grain rice. its what they use in sushi. if you rinse it once or twice it will make it stickier (which is good) or you can rinse it really well. (which is better) some say that this removes a lot of the nutrients, but hey, asians have done it for a very long time. so pish posh on not rinsing your rice.
so if you want to rinse it well, the water should be clear. ie no more cloudiness from the ricey starch thats in there. side note: if you don't already have one, BUY A RICE COOKER. big, small, whatever is appropriate for your family. seriously. gets it right every time.
2 cups of uncooked rice makes about 3 cups cooked. this is good for about 4 people. or leftovers, you know, whatever.
thus ends the prep session. btw, you can start with cold rice. so this can even be done the day before.

so now. start with a pan. it goes on the stove. medium heat. literally. mine goes on 5 of 10. that's actually where i do most of my cooking. your mileage may vary.
add something slick. i like olive oil. butter also works and has a pretty great flavor. even country crock will do the job. what you don't want to use is any kind of cooking spray... it just doesn't coat well enough.

now add some flavor. i default to garlic salt (coarse grind) and cayenne pepper. if it was easier to find ground (not crushed) red pepper i would probably use that instead. but when you get a seed from the crushed red pepper, it causes a spice spike. not typically desirable.
hmm... you probably want an amount... i could use the cop out of "season to taste" but you may not know how much you like this stuff. i really just sprinkle it in until it looks right. cover the bottom of the pan, lightly. that's as good as its gonna get. you don't want it all in one place. spread it out like the seasoning is claiming Manifest Destiny all over your oil.

next comes the fun part. we are, in theory kicking it up a notch here. add the cheese.
if you come anywhere near this dish with american cheese... you're fired. hang up your apron, and turn in your resignation. you're done. D-U-N done. cheddar, the sharper the better. sliced, shredded, chunked, whatever. we can make it work. other things that work are pepper jack and i think cojack works, tho i havent tried. mozzarella is complicated and a little too stringy.
if still in a block. slice it first. if sliced as for sammiches, fold each slice in half to make them thicker. if shredded or cubed, dump it in and spread it out. its not even about covering the cheese in oil. its about frying the cheese... you get it melty. and the bottom starts to actually cook. this makes it chewy. like the cheese on the edge of a pizza. totally freakin' awesome. the like time i did this i used most of a bag of shredded cheese. might as well use the whole bag. i had made a grilled cheese sammich the night before. (what can i say? i like cheese) you might as well use a whole bag tho. cheddar makes it better.

almost there. add the rice to the pan. did i mention that you should use a pretty big pan? because you should.  just right on top of the cheese. if it was cold, you want to break it up a bit before you dump it in. now stir a little bit to get it mixed up. you aren't looking for a homogenized cheese-rice mixture yet. having chunks of cheese in a sea of rice like the broken planks of a pirate ship is okay. trust me. not really a lot to this step.

so, if you have used 3 cooked cups of rice and a full bag of cheese. you want to throw in about 6 eggs. just crack them and plop them right in. break the yolks, doesn't matter. its all getting mixed anyway.
at this point the egg whites will make your concoction look wet. move it around until that wetness is even, and then let it cook for a while. cover it if you like. come back a little later, mix it some more and let it cook until your eggs are hard. it almost starts looking like a casserole or a quiche. that's okay.

a final note on the seasoning. use more that you think you should. at first it looks like a lot. but, on its own, rice is bland. eggs arent very full of flavor either. so it doesn't go very far.

i do not pretend that this is at all healthy. it fills the hole. that's its purpose. that is all.

12:50 pm - been a long time
got married to a wonderful woman. things are good there.
been in a few weddings since then. good times. im happy for those involved. met some pretty cool people.

went back to school over the summer. its the slow season as far as work goes... so i didnt miss much.
i remember a time when math was easy. at that time i wasnt taking 11 credit hours of upper level math.
im not focused enough to really apply myself. i could have done this... but for now i have failed.
i ought to be doing homework right now. studying for my number theory final. it amazing that i have so much trouble bringing myself to do it. and i hate myself for it. i still feel pretty good about linear algebra, which started very poorly, and probability... which i keep relating to die rolling so i can pretend its still fun.
anyway, it will soon be over for a while. we decided that it would be better for me to work thru the season instead of taking classes. getting out of debt is rad.  in theory, getting my BS in physics wont actually do much for me. i looked at how much i could probably make with such a degree... it would take 10 years to make up for what i wont be making while im taking classes.
im okay with this.

two new larps have started up. pretty fun so far.

finish watching gilmore girls... i never really identified with rory, just laurelei. tho i do feel like i once dated season 7 rory. the similarities were bizarre. love the dialogue. the rapidfire quips. some of the stories were great. tho i did vehemently hate several of the characters.

watching btvs and angel with my lovely wife. season 6 and 3 respectively. good stuff.

wow, tv just took up more space than gaming... how odd.

sending in my cwp paper work this week. sure, thats a goal. great.

07:54 pm - 5 things
explaining [info]literati_pygmy 's responses
-Comics
we kinda got each other hooked on marvel comics. i really blame mc chris. because that lead to an avengers addiction. also, i introduced her, for good or ill, to Universe of Superheroes

-Lighting paperwork
sitting at the Ritz, hating life, playing in excel.

-Couches
i crashed on hers when she lived in avondale and i was in OP, she crashed on mine when i lived in avondale and she was in mandarin

-Goth Dancing
mmm... so much of this has to do with menopause. we went dancing with the TD of the pause.

-McChris
(lower case no dots)
went to the show, got her hooked.

02:04 am - sometimes, im rad.
im home from work, shortly after my birthday has ended. its raining outside. i hear the drops bouncing off of leaves before they puddle on the ground. kind of a neat moment after a pretty good day.
i havent posted much here lately. ive been busy with work and getting ready for the wedding. today it just felt like it was time to post.
new favorite band: black light burns. i had heard of them at least a year ago. likely more. from [info]agent_j . tried to check them out on myspace, but at that moment, either my connection was real crappy, or the music just wasnt loading. they opened for combichrist last friday. i bought their cd that night. fantastic stuff. kind of a sister machine gun meets type o negative late 90s alt rock feel. i liked their cd quite a bit more than the new combi. sad, but i feel that they are really talented musicians and i like their style.
at the show i knew i would be jumping into the pit at some point... in my early days of moshing i was about a buck-sixty. this was, admittedly, 12 years ago. i had fun, i hit people, but i got knocked around plenty. somewhere along the way i figured out that i wasnt really able to enjoy the shows i was attending while trying not to die. so i just stopped moshing.
it may have been while i was in birmingham that i figured out that i really can do both. im not really sure. there was certainly something about a combichrist show that enabled me to jump back in. the music is both simple enough and energetic enough to motivate some concensual violence. maybe its because ive seen then so many times now.
anyway. last friday i hit the pit. im not used to being the big guy in the pit. or even a big guy. people went where i wanted them. im about 240 these days, and while there is some squishy, im a whole lot stronger than i was.
hooray for new experiences that dont suck.

so, birthday. went to work. it sucked. my muscles were tight all morning. likely due to dehydration the night before. my own fault. was just too lazy to get up and get a drink. comics (because it was wednesday) lunch with [info]afrodave and some vegging until [info]bunktime got out of work. bought her birthday present, ate some pfchangs. came home for some icecream, and went back to work.

so here i am now. ready to sign some time away to wow...

dc and back the weekend after christmas. teh temple there is pretty freakin rad.
tfos with friends on newyears. i played a flock of seagulls. i love that game.
wedding on the first. wasnt terrible.

01:17 am
had a neat dream last night. i was camping. there was music. noticed some glitchy time loop of some sort. maybe like a record skipped, once.
walked up to a cabin adn there was an old crone there holding a vial of red liquid with a foil lid. whenever the lid was open it created a time bubble. part of this is sure to be from reading NYX. Kiden has the ability to stop time. pretty groovy.
i ended up drinking a drop from the vial. for a brief time i could see time. how it flowed, and i could affect it. causing the ebb and flow to grow or shrink. all in all, a pretty fun dream. better than flying in my opinion.
next time i shouldnt wait all day to write this stuff down.

12:07 am - memories
cleaned out some stuff from my old room today. got to share some of that time with [info]bunktime . which was nice. digging thru a history of my life as a packrat. i dont know that i ever wont be a packrat, but i did throw out 2 full garbage bags today. things that have history, things that conjure memories. one thing in particular was a gumby-pokey centaur that  my friend jeff and i created once upon a  time. must have been 10ish. brought a couple of bins of such things back to the apartment. im sure i will enjoy looking over those things and reminising when i have time.

and i cant get city of heroes to load... lame.

11:40 am - camping, family, neighbors, shopping.... what else?
after work and institute tuesday, [info]bunktime  and i packed up and drove out to jekyll island to spend the thanksgiving holiday camping with her family. good fun. got there late tuesday night and crashed. wednesday was mostly for setting up. and there was plenty DS to be had. thursday there was a good bike ride to the playground and then hours of tag. great fun, my future brother in law is a squirrelly little monkey boy.
we rode back in time to the feast... mmm... all was well.
i think we had an 8 way game of mario kart DS going for some time. why do i even own that game? im so freakin terrible at it. even got a little WoW time in. death knights are pretty cool. on (my soon to be aunt's account)
friday was for shopping. the women went one way, the men went another (partly because we slept in, some)
went to bed early friday and came home today, symphony rehearsal and then nutbuster nonsense this week.
met my new neighbors. couple of girls, dont know much about them. they are going to pay me for sharing the internet tho, thats cool.
